A neighborhood walk and dinner...

I think we can smell spring :) Today we took a long, long neighborhood walk. Over to Portland Nursery, then to the Playground, after that we were just hungry and I really did not feel like cooking. - We originally wanted to walk to one of the Thai restaurant's but instead stopped at the Hawthrone Fish House (there is a second location on Corbett "Corbett Fish House"). It is a Wisconsin restaurant, lots of Packer paraphernalia and a bunch of different fish fry. The great thing here is that it is breaded with rice flour, and does not contain any milk. All their food is gluten free and food containing dairy is marked. Both Alena and Mia Rose liked especially their fries. I ate fish tacos...

For dessert they also offer a "Tofu cheesecake" with varying selections. Today's selection was chocolate. I think Alena ate half of the slice while Mia Rose was happy eating the rest of Alena's fries :)

You are so lucky to have so many good resteraunts! Our town is too tiny and the "big city" only seems to have chain resteraunts....

When you go out, do you ask the waiter or call for a manager to ask whats in a dish?

Yes, I think we are really lucky here in Portland. Lot's of great local restaurants, and local chains.

We generally ask the server, and they in return ask in the kitchen. Sometimes the server will bring the manager to the table, it just depends. The good thing here in PDX is also that there are so many vegans. - And you know, if we don't feel good about a place then none of us really wants to eat there. At least I don't want to eat in a restaurant where the kitchen does not know what's in the food...

Have a great rest of the weekend.

Leslie, I totally agree with you! I read about all the great places that Portland has to offer a person with diet restrictions, and I am jealous! We also live in a smaller town, with mostly chain restaurants and fast food.

I do truely enjoy reading all the entries and hopefully one day will be able to visit Portland with my daughter and try some of them.
